ABOUT

Garrett Wellenstein holds a Doctorate of Musical Arts in Conducting degree from the Eastman School of Music. At Eastman he studied orchestral conducting with Neil Varon and participated in masterclasses with David Zinman and in the RPO's Summer Conducting Institute. He has conducted both the Eastman Philharmonia and Eastman School Symphony Orchestra in numerous concerts. As an advocate of new music, he also conducted several works with OSSIA, the student-run new music group at Eastman. He also holds Master's degree in Conducting from Eastman, as well as a Bachelor of Arts degree in Music from the University of California, Berkeley, where he studied orchestral conducting with David Milnes and choral conducting with Marika Kuzma.

A passionate educator, at Eastman Garrett taught lab courses in Basic Conducting under the supervision of Dr. Mark Scatterday, as well as several sections of Aural Musicianship under the supervision of Dr. Matthew Curlee. For his work teaching Basic Conducting, he was awarded a 2017-2018 Graduate Teaching Assistant Prize.
